Gaura Purnima is a very special celebration at Krishna Island. It is the appearance of the Krishna Avatar, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Lord Chaitanya is the Avatar of Krishna who came to dispel the darkness of the Age of Kali, by propagating the chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra : Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.

This simple mantra has to power to dispel the darkness of Kali Yuga. Just as the full moon unexpectedly provides light on a dark night. Lord Chaitanya and the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra unexpectedly provides light in otherwise dark times.

This year Gaura Purnima was celebrated at Krishna Island on Sunday 24th March. As you can see, there was bathing of our Deities of Gaur Nitai (Chaitanya and Nityananda).

And of course lots of sweet Kirtan, chanting of Hare Krishna with musical instruments.

We have a Festival at Krishna Island every Sunday, and you are very welcome to visit. You just need to be at “Hare Krishna Ferry Quay” at 12noon. Festival includes a lecture on philosophy of Bhagavad Gita, lots of musical Kirtan, and our famous Hare Krishna vegetarian feast. Free entry. Donations accepted!
