Cows

With a herd of 5 cows and bulls, Krishna Island is a real haven for the cows! The Island is also home to an organic agricultural farm which uses sustainable and natural farming methods that are good for the soil and environment.

Krishna Island Farm’s primary goal is to enable self sustainability and harmonious living between nature, humans and animals, specifically the cow. It also provides alternatives to agricultural and dietary practices that support meat and unethical dairy industries. To this end, Krishna Island Farm presents the philosophy and implementation of compassionate cow protection.

Switching to a vegetarian diet and training oxen to enable their useful abilities are crucial to establishing cow protection. On the other hand, developing sustainable organic farming is also crucial to protecting the environment and making higher quality and natural vegetables available without destroying the soil.

Why protect cows?

Hearing the term “Cow Protection,” people typically have one of two reactions. Some think protection is for endangered species and since there are lots of cows, it’s better to concentrate on the giant panda, the blue whale or the vampire bat. Others may think it’s a form of pagan worship of animals. Cows are protected for many reasons. Have a look below.

Cows are considered to be mothers

A mother breastfeeds her child for a mere few months, and then cow’s milk thereafter performing the same role. So you wouldn’t put your mother in a sandwich when she’s old, would you?

All living beings are spiritual in essence

We are all spiritual living beings in different bodies based on our karma and desires. A self realised person sees all living beings as equal regardless of the body they possess.

Cows are sacred in
Vedic tradition

The Vedas say that it is in order to establish this very fact that Lord Krishna appeared in a family of cowherds. Cows hold a very special position and hence are respected and worshipped.
